Catherine Toppin, Esq. is a registered patent attorney with over 15 years of experience in intellectual property (IP) strategy. She has a passion for partnering with individuals and businesses to create solutions to achieve their objectives, and has counseled clients on a variety of issues including traditional IP development (patents, trademarks, tradesecrets), IP transactions, contract drafting and negotiation, and employment law issues. Throughout her career, Catherine has held positions as an IP specialist in private practice, a senior IP leader and people manager at a Fortune 10 company, a USPTO patent examiner, as well as a solo practitioner in her own IP consulting practice.
She earned a degree in electrical engineering from Princeton University and a JD from the University of Maryland, Francis King Carey School of Law.
Over the years, Catherine has expanded her client base to include not only corporate IP departments, but also a number of small business and start-up clients in a cross-section of industries including: high-tech, cannabis, and fashion. Her analytical skills and tailored approach to problem solving makes her an ideal contributor to the BVE community.
Catherine is currently a Partner at the law firm of Fitch, Even, Tabin & Flannery, LLP and works remotely from her home office in Bowie, MD.
